South-central Alaska is bordered by the Chugach and Wrangell Mountains, Prince William Sound, and the Alaska Range. Thus, this region has different landscapes and difficult topography. Large ice fields and glaciers can be found in this area, as can several lakes. The park’s eastern limit is just seven miles from downtown Anchorage, while its western boundary is in the foothills of the Chugach Mountains.
