Hampson Archeological Museum State Park in Wilson, Arkansas, features an exhibition of the Nodena site’s nationally known collection of artifacts. This was a 15-acre palisade hamlet that once flourished along the Mississippi River in Mississippi County in what was then Mississippi State. The Hampson Archeological Museum is responsible for providing an interpretation of the way of life of the agriculturally based civilization between 1400 and 1650 A.D.
The story of this early indigenous farming society is told through artifacts and exhibitions. These early indigenous farmers grew crops and supplemented their food resources by hunting native game. At the same time, this population developed its art, religion, and political system in addition to a bustling trading network. The late Dr. James K. Hampson and his wife and children were responsible for preserving this unique collection.
