Mount Tamalpais State Park
Mount Tamalpais State Park is a beautiful park in California known for its stunning mountain vistas, redwood forests, and hiking trails. Mount Tamalpais is located just north of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. At 2,571 feet, the peak looks out over a landscape of redwood woods and oak woodlands. On a clear day, visitors may see Mount Diablo, the East Bay hills and cities, San Francisco Bay, and the Farallon Islands, located 25 miles out to sea.
The Sierra Nevada’s snow-capped peaks can occasionally be seen up to 150 miles away. Thousands of years before Europeans arrived, the Coastal Miwok Indians had already established a permanent presence there. Wagon roads and trails were established. The railway was eventually finished and earned the nickname “The Crookedest Railroad in the World.” After a fire in 1930 badly destroyed the railway, it was abandoned.
Area Attractions At Mount Tamalpais State Park
Weekends are the only time the East Peak Summit’s visitor centre and refreshment stand are open to the public. In addition, there is a phone, picnic tables, and restrooms that are completely accessible to guests. During the 1930s, members of the Civilian Conservation Corps worked to build the Mountain Theater within the park. The Mountain Play has been performed there annually since 1913, and the natural stone theatre seats 3,750 people.

Mt. Tam’s breathtaking views of the Pacific coast and San Francisco Bay drew hikers long before it was designated a state park in 1928. On a day with visibility of more than 25 miles, known as “Farallons Day,” you can make out the jagged peaks of the Farallon Islands.
