Lake Lurleen State Park in Alabama

Lake Lurleen State Park in Alabama

Lake Lurleen State Park is a public park in Alabama, situated 9 miles northwest of Northport in Tuscaloosa County. It surrounds the beautiful 250-acre Lake Lurleen and is close to Tuscaloosa. During the time that her husband was governor of Alabama, Lurleen Wallace, a native of Tuscaloosa County and a former first lady of the state, was essential in securing funding for a comprehensive renovation of the state’s parks.

As a tribute to her, we have Lake Lurleen State Park, which is a lovely location to spend time in the fresh air and get away from it all.

Table of Contents

Swimming:

Take a trip to Lake Lurleen and spend the day lounging on its sandy shores. No lifeguards are on duty, so please swim only inside the designated area. No swimming is permitted from any other locations, including bridges and boats.

Take advantage of the modest pavilion beside the beach on a first-come, first-served basis, but remember that cooking is prohibited. There are picnic spaces with benches, tables, and barbecues.

Boating:

The 250-acre long and branching Lake Lurleen was created artificially. Its maximum width is half a mile, its depth is 48 feet, and it is around 1.5 miles long. Largemouth bass, bream, catfish, and crappie are just some of the fish introduced to the lake. There is a tackle shop, boat rentals, boat ramps, and three fishing piers available at this park for anglers.

Watercraft powered by gasoline engines are allowed. However, jet skiing is not. Children under the age of 8 must always wear Coast Guard-approved flotation devices when on a boat.
