Azalea State Reserve

Azalea State Reserve is a nature preserve that belongs to the state of California in the United States. It is found in McKinleyville, an unincorporated community in Humboldt County.

This region is located a short distance to the north of Arcata, the home of Humboldt State University, somewhat above the Mad River and not too far from where it flows into the Pacific Ocean. The western azalea, also known as Rhododendron occidentale, is the species of Rhododendron that this Reserve is protecting.

Its abundant pink and white blossoms can be seen between April and May. There is a self-guided nature trail that is not very long and focuses on plants native to the north coast region. There is a place reserved for picnics that you can use. In 1943, the state purchased the 30-acre property that is also 12 hectares in size.
