Cache River National Wildlife Refuge

Cache River National Wildlife Refuge was built in 1986 to preserve significant wetland habitats and provide a secure area for migratory ducks to feed and rest. These special wetlands are so valuable that they are recognized as important international wetlands. The refuge covers more than 56,000 acres in different parts of Arkansas. The Cache River National Wildlife Refuge is located inside the Cache River floodplain, which stretches roughly 70 miles from where the Cache River meets the White River to Grubbs, Arkansas. Winter ducks flock to this sanctuary.

The North American Waterfowl Management Plan calls it the most important mallard duck wintering region and a RAMSAR Convention Wetland of International Importance. The ecosystem spans an area that is comprised of 4,300 acres of croplands, oxbow lakes, connected sloughs, and bottomland forests, totaling 33,000 acres. Additionally, there are 7,500 acres of reforested areas.

Hunting At Cache River National Wildlife Refuge

Visitors are permitted within the sanctuary during certain hours of the year will allow people to engage in regulated hunting programs if they have an interest in pursuing game species in a controlled and sustainable manner through hunting. These programs are open to anyone.
