Fremont Weir Wildlife Area
Fremont Weir Wildlife Area spans roughly 1,500 acres and is home to various plant life, including willows, cottonwood trees, valley oaks, and other shrubs and bushes. There are pheasants, valley quail, and various ducks in this area. This region functions as a floodway. When there is a significant rise in the water level in the Sacramento River, the water will flow around the Fremont Weir and into the Yolo Bypass.
In 1978, the primary activities of the public in this area were hunting and, to a lesser extent, fishing, and these activities are still prevalent today. In 1981, the Fish and Game Commission made the land a wildlife area and named the property.
