Hot Springs National Park

Hot Springs National Park

Hot Springs National Park, located in Arkansas, is the world’s first national park, established in 1832 as Hot Springs Reservation. The healing benefits of the area’s hot springs, which have been used for generations, are protected here. The reserve eventually became a world famous resort called “The American Spa,” drawing people from all walks of life searching for therapeutic hot springs. The Hot Springs National Park Service protects eight historic bathhouses, including the elegant Fordyce Bathhouse, now used as the park’s visitor center.

The historic district known as “Bathhouse Row” is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as having the highest historical significance because of its impressive concentration of bathhouses in North America. The park protects 47 hot springs and the watershed so people can enjoy hiking, picnicking, and beautiful driving in a historically significant setting.
