Kofa National Wildlife Refuge in southwest Arizona spans over 665,400 desert terrain between Quartzsite and Yuma. Although hikers, photographers, and people interested in wildlife are the most frequent visitors to the Crystal Hill Area, there are also rock hounds and stargazers to be found there.
The name of the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge, which covers approximately 540,000 acres, was inspired by the King of Arizona gold mine. The park’s creation safeguarded the desert bighorn sheep and other indigenous animals in 1939. After realizing that action was needed to protect the state’s wildlife, the Arizona Boy Scouts launched a campaign to get decision makers’ attention.
