Latour Demonstration State Forest
Latour Demonstration State Forest ownership of the land was passed from the State Lands Commission to the California Division of Forestry in 1946 when it was designated as a state forest. On the outskirts of the Lassen National Forest, south of Burney and east of Redding, you’ll find the town of Lassen.
There are numerous volcanic and glacial geological characteristics in the LaTour forest. Ten economically significant conifer tree species thrive in this forest. Sugar pine, ponderosa pine, Jeffrey pine, western white pine, lodge pole pine, white fir, red fir, incense cedar, and mountain hemlock are all in this group.
Hardwood trees such as California black oak, canyon live oak, large-leaf maple, and red alder are in the stands but at lower densities. Hikers, cyclists, snowmobilers, and equestrians all flock to the region because of its Cascade Range proximity. Forest roads are open to the public throughout the warmer months unless they pose a risk owing to logging operations. Only forest roads can use scooters, carts, mountain bikes, etc.

During the winter and spring months, there is typically a period when severe winds, deep snow, and extreme cold are present. As a result, the area is inaccessible to vehicle travel other than that of snowmobiles.

Latour Demonstration, State Forest camping, is a wonderful way to enjoy the great outdoors. Campground facilities include picnic tables, fire rings for cooking and warming, flush toilets, and water. Pets are allowed, but visitors must always keep them on leashes to protect others. No equines are allowed in the campgrounds, so please don’t bring yours.
