MacKerricher State Park
MacKerricher State Park is a spectacular example of the California coast’s natural splendour. This breathtaking natural attraction is only three miles north of Fort Bragg, California, and it encompasses more than 2,400 acres and nine miles of shoreline.
Within the park’s limits, a rich mosaic of ecosystems develops, including beaches, dunes, marshes, tide pools, forests, and a rare inland lake. Beach, bluff, headland, dune, forest, and marsh are just a few of the habitats that may be found in MacKerricher State Park.
The shoreline is dotted with tidepools. Off the coast of Mendocino, seals call the rocky outcrops home. Cleone Lake, an artificial tidal lagoon, is a popular destination for and home to over 90 different bird species.

History Of MacKerricher State Park
The only state park historically part of the Mendocino Indian Reservation is MacKerricher State Park. The Union Lumber Company had extensive wood and shipping holdings in northern Mendocino County, and this park unit is the only survivor.
A multinational conglomerate eventually bought out a local, family-run logging and shipping business. MacKerricher, once called Cleone, followed a trend typical of the region’s smaller communities. The park opened to the public in 1952, and between that year and 1977, more than 1,530 acres of land were added along Ten Mile Beach.
