McNee Ranch State Park
McNee Ranch State Park is in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California, close to Montara and the rest of unincorporated San Mateo County. There is a peak there that is 1,898 feet above sea level. From the Pedro Mountain route, hikers can take the North Peak Access Road, an unpaved fire route, to the peak.
Light snowfalls have occasionally dusted the peak. Clear days at the peak offer breathtaking panoramas of the whole San Francisco Bay Area. McNee Ranch State Park is stunningly gorgeous and has several unexpected features.
McNee Ranch needs more amenities than we’ve come to expect from state parks, consisting as it does of wide, multi-use fire roads. There are only a few restrooms, signs, or visitor centres. Parking is a hassle in and of itself. In their place are rugged fire paths that ascend over 1900 feet through a diverse range of Bay Area flora to a top with breathtaking panoramas.
