Monte Sano State Park in Alabama
Monte Sano State Park is a picturesque park with campgrounds, hiking paths, and breathtaking views of the surrounding area. It is situated in Alabama. Monte Sano, which translates to “Mountain of Health,” is located at an elevation of more than 500 meters. Since the middle of the 1820s, when the town of Viduta was founded there, the mountain has been a popular tourist destination.
Viduta is a derivation of the Spanish word Vida, which means life. A sanatorium and a hotel resort known as Hotel Monte Sano once stood in the town of Viduta. The hotel resort opened its doors on June 1, 1887, but it was forced to close in the early 1900s due to a weakening economy. Huntsville’s best escape from city life is Monte Sano Resort and Spa.
