Hiking at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park
Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park is home to some of California’s most beautiful hiking trails, with routes ranging from half a mile to 23 miles. These trails wind through redwood woods, oak groves, and the Big Sur River Valley. The adjacent Ventana Wilderness in Los Padres National Forest provides access to an additional two hundred miles of hiking trails. Buzzard’s Roost Hikers

Valley View Trail
Hikers are taken on an enchanted journey through the forest on the Valley View Trail, a two-mile circle ranging in difficulty from easy to challenging. Along the way, the walk climbs to the Valley View Overlook, which provides breathtaking views of the Big Sur River Valley and the adjacent Andrew Molera State Park. Along this walk, you can take in the breathtaking scenery of your surroundings and see the awe-inspiring Pfeiffer Falls.
Nature and Wildlife in Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park
Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park is home to abundant native flora and fauna, many of which may be seen along the nature paths that snake through the park’s redwood, oak, maple, and cottonwood trees. These trails also run beside the river. In this area, you can spot black-tailed deer, grey squirrels, raccoons, skunks, bobcats, and grey foxes. While strolling down the riverbank, one may glimpse the critically endangered steelhead trout.
Camping At Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park
Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park offers a variety of camping options. There are 189 riverfront campsites suitable for tents or RVs, 2 group tent campsites, a rustic camping lodge, and primitive campsites accessible by hiking or biking. The cabin can accommodate up to six visitors with a large bed, twin bunk bed, and space for an inflatable mattress. The adjacent campsite can host an additional six guests.
Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park is home to a campground and the Big Sur Lodge, both of which are available to visitors interested in spending the night within the park. The Big Sur Lodge features 61 well-appointed guest rooms, a conference centre, a gift shop, a grocery store, and a cafe.
