Queen Wilhelmina State Park
Queen Wilhelmina State Park is home to a fortress-like retreat that rules over the Ouachita Mountains from its perch atop Arkansas’s second-highest peak. The Talimena Scenic Drive Park is full of historical sites and beautiful landscapes. The Kansas City, Pittsburg, and Gulf Railroad constructed a resort hotel on Rich Mountain named the Queen Wilhelmina Inn after the queen of the Netherlands in the late 1800s.
The original “Castle in the Sky” has been replaced by two hotels, the most recent of which serves as the park’s centrepiece. The lodge features 38 rooms, including the Stilwell Room with a king-size bed and a sitting area; two Regent’s Rooms, each with a jacuzzi tub, and two Queen’s Rooms with wood-burning stoves. Take advantage of the Queen’s Restaurant and the Queen’s Treasury gift shop for excellent Southern cuisine.
