Salinas National Wildlife Refuge
Salinas River Refuge may be found around 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) north of Monterey near the mouth of the Salinas River that empties into Monterey Bay. Some of the natural features include riverine, salty ponds, dunes, pickleweed salt marshes, river lagoons, and different riverine habitats included in the refuge.
The region serves as a breeding ground for several species at risk of extinction, such as the California brown pelican, Smith’s blue butterfly, western white plover, Monterey sand gilia, and Monterey spineflower.
Although anybody may visit the Salinas River Refuge, other than a parking area and some pathways, facilities are only available if they are available. If you’re prepared to put in the effort, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views and a fantastic display of native dune flora on the walk from the parking lot to the beach. Those are up for a stroll down the shoreline from the parking lot. Due to the sensitive nature of the area, activities such as camping, riding horses, and bringing dogs are not allowed.

Riding horses At Salinas National Wildlife Refuge
Salinas River National Wildlife Refuge is a no-horse zone. The refuge was established to help preserve and conserve species and their natural environments. Horseback riding is prohibited because of the delicate ecosystems and abundant creatures that call this refuge home.
