Sequoia National Forest
Sequoia National Forest is a protected area in California known for its giant sequoia trees, stunning mountain landscapes, and outdoor recreation and exploration opportunities. There are nineteen National Forests in California, and the Sequoia is one of them. Named for the world’s tallest tree, the giant Sequoia can be found in more than 30 separate groves on the forested slopes below. The scenery in the Sequoia is just as breathtaking as the trees.
At the southern edge of the Sierra Nevada, you’ll find towering granite monoliths, glacier-carved valleys, and raging rapids. The foothill region, at an elevation of around 1,000 feet, and the ragged high country, with peaks exceeding 12,000 feet, offer some of the most breathtaking vistas of the western mountain ranges.
Snowmobiling At Sequoia National Forest
The Sequoia National Forest is a fantastic area to visit in the winter if you’re a snow sports fan. There are miles of trails ready to be explored, so bring your snowmobiles and RV trailers. You may access over 90 miles of trails near Lake Isabella at Greenhorn Summit. You may access Big Meadows Road and Burton Pass Road from a staging point at the Quail Flat Winter Trailhead off of General’s Highway. The nearby Big Meadow Winter Trailhead provides access to a network of trails ideal for snowmobiling, skiing, sledging, and snowshoeing.
Target Shooting At Sequoia National Forest
Pack your gun or bow if you intend to do some target practice or sighting while on the road. Target shooting with bows, pistols, and rifles is available at the Cyrus Canyon Shooting Range. To the left of the main shooting range is a trap shooting area. Small calibre rifles and handguns have their targets set at 25 and 50 yards.
Hunting At Sequoia National Forest
Seasonal hunting in the Sequoia National Forest is popular, but it is important to remember to adhere to all applicable California State regulations. Wild boar, bighorn sheep, elk, pronghorn antelope, bear, and deer are just a few of the large game that may be found in this area. Common examples of small game are squirrels, rabbits, and hares.
Cyrus Canyon Shooting Range Area is the most popular hunting spot in the forest and for good reason. Wearing hunter orange and carrying your hunting license and tags are mandatory during the appropriate seasons for each type of hunting.
Picnicking At Sequoia National Forest
Pack everyone into the campervan and travel to the Sequoia National Forest for a picnic or barbecue. Tables, grills, and a vault toilet can all be found at the Powder Can Picnic Area, not far from Hume. The Upper Richbar Picnic Site in Bakersfield and the Riverkern Beach Picnic Site in Kernville are located on the Kern River, making them ideal angler spots. If you want, you can go whitewater rafting or float down the river.
Caving At Sequoia National Forest
You should pack your rifle or bow in the camper if you need to get some target practice or if you want to see your weapon. Various firearms, including bows, pistols, and rifles, can be used to shoot targets at the Cyrus Canyon Shooting Range. In addition, a trap shooting area is located to the left of the primary shooting range. For pistols and rifles with a small calibre, the targets are positioned at a distance of 25 and 50 yards.
Hiking At Sequoia National Forest
Sequoia National Forest is perfect for anyone looking for a relaxing stroll through the trees or an adventurous trek over the mountains. The Hobo Fishing Trail is a half-mile long and starts at Hobo Campground. Its endpoint is Sandy Flat Campground. The Wet Meadow Trail is a longer option, stretching over 4.2 miles before terminating at the Forest Boundary. The Woodpecker Trail is a daunting 15.6 miles long.
