Turlock Lake State Park

Turlock Lake State Park

Turlock Lake State Park is a recreational area in California that offers camping, boating, fishing, and hiking opportunities for visitors to enjoy. The recreation area is ideally suited for water-based outdoor activities, as it is bordered on the south by Turlock Lake and the Tuolumne River on the north. In 1950, the park was founded when the city of Turlock leased 228 acres of foothill property from the Turlock Irrigation District, and a 3,500-acre lake with 26 miles of shoreline was created.

The lake is perfect for picnics, day trips, and launching boats. About a mile from the lake, on the verdant Tuolumne River’s south bank, is a campground with space for sixty-six campers.

Views of the savannas and adjoining cattle ranches and orchards can be had from several vantage points. Lake Road is located between the campsite and the day-use area; visitors may obtain a bird’s eye perspective of the surrounding landscape, including the river, sloughs, and miles of dredger tailing piles (a remnant of the region’s 50 years of gold mining).

Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day is the busiest time. After Labor Day and throughout October, temperatures are mild, the days are golden, and the campgrounds are rarely crowded.
