Cibola National Wildlife Refuge
Cibola National Wildlife Refuge may be found in the river valley flooded by the lower Colorado and bordered on all sides by ridges and washes typical of desert terrain. The Refuge’s boundaries include the original course of the Colorado River and a channelized section of the river built in the late 1960s.
In addition to these primary sources of water, this region of the Sonoran Desert is also home to several different animal species that make their home in several major backwaters.
The local flora and fauna can endure temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer and an annual precipitation of only 2 inches. It is made possible by the life-giving water provided by the river. We invite you to stop by this oasis in the desert and take in the natural beauty while participating in one of the Refuge’s various activities focused on the local species.
